Ted Widerski was an incredibly dedicated advocate for gifted mathematicians who died unexpectedly during the summer of 2009. He was a math teacher and Talented and Gifted Resource teacher for the Madison Metropolitan School District. In that role he was an active member of the Greater Dane County Talented and Gifted Network. He knew how important it was for students to be able to work with others with the same passion for math and the important role that math competitions can play in the education of many students. He was instrumental in starting many of the math competitions that we have today as part of the Greater Dane Co. Talented and Gifted Network.
The Greater Dane County Talented and Gifted Network, with help from the generosity of those who contributed to Ted’s memorial fund, is announcing the Ted Widerski Mathematics Scholarship. This scholarship is for students in high school who are passionate about mathematics and would like to extend their experiences by taking advantage of a summer learning opportunity. This scholarship can be applied to the tuition of a mathematics camp, course, or competition.
